A few weeks back, I completed my first ever sprint triathlon...and I loved it! Training for it was such a great motivation to get out the door to exercise, even on days when I really didn't want too! A Triple Scoop of Cute!

Three little cousins all born within two months of each other. Lucky Mammas, lucky Grandma! I'm sure it will be a good time at family reunions in a few years! BTW...the cute redhead is mine! I am lucky :)

Remembering an angel

One year ago today, little Sarah lost her battle with brain cancer and returned to live with her Heavenly Father once more. I was honored numerous times to photograph little Sarah and be near her sweet caring spirit. She was bursting with goodness and you couldn't help but smile when she was around. I am blessed to have known her and her amazing family. Thank you for letting me be a part of your lives.

I have failed to announce the upcoming arrival of a new staff member at Amy Jo photography. I haven't actually met him yet, but he has a lot of potential and will be very cute. Of course, he will be in a long training period to get up to speed around here, seeing as he will be arriving at about 7 to 8 pounds and under 2 feet long. We suspect that in a few years he will be a big helper :) Oh, his expected arrival will be in March. We will keep you posted on his progress. :)

I planted some Bluebonnets in my yard this year and they are so gorgeous right now! I am a little confused though because none of them are actually blue, each plant is a very different color of purple. I probably love them even more because of it though!

Bluebonnets in Texas

Spring has sprung in south Texas and the Bluebonnets are getting ready to show their deep colors of blue and purple! Every year I get requests for photo sessions with the Bluebonnets, and unfortunately, some of those requests come too late to catch the splender, so I am sending out an early warning :)
The best time to get pictures with the Bluebonnets is the end of March and first part of April. Besides being in a beautiful setting with the flowers, the weather is GREAT right now!

Last year we wanted to introduce the wonderful world of lifestyle photography by giving away 3 lifestyle photo sessions, and it was so much fun!

This year we wanted to take it a step further, and think bigger! We are going to shoot a wedding, absolutely FREE! You heard me! FREE! Say goodbye to boring wedding photography and say hello to lifestyle wedding photography!

The rules-

-The couple must be getting married in the year 2008

-Send in a brief story of why the couple deserves to receive free wedding photography. Entries must be received no later than February 29th (after all, February is the month of love!) send entries to AMYJO@AMYJOPHOTO.COM

-Include a picture of the cute couple together.

-You can apply for yourself, or send in an application for someone you know!

-All entries will be narrowed down by dates we have available and by picking out our favorite stories! A panel of voters will then choose their favorites and I will announce the winner on my blog in March.

-If the couple is getting married outside of the Houston area, they can still win!
There may be some minimal travel fees depending on the location of the wedding. Contact us for details.

What the winner recieves:

- All day coverage of their wedding, personally shot by Amy Jo! If they want pictures brushing their teeth in the morning, so be it! And I will stay until the party ends!

The Conner family was so great to work with! This was the first time the family had all been together in 2 years and we had a great time getting some pictures to remember the reunion. They were so nice and were real troopers in the cold weather! They have an adorable little boy that was full of so much energy and kept us on our toes! I did not see him for long without his favorite teddy and little car, so cute!

The Judd family is so much fun! And I should know because I happen to branch from that tree :) This particular Judd family, belonging to Keith and Chris, are my aunt, uncle and cousins. While I was in Utah we went up to a mountain near their home and I was able to document them doing some of their favorite things together, riding 4 wheelers, catching bugs, hiking and just spending time in nature. I love this sequence of my cousin catching some bugs, he is so cute!

When we were finished, we headed back down and got some fun shots with Keith and Chris. They own a mechanic shop in Santaquin and we thought it would be fun to get some cool car/mechanic shots with them. Here are a couple that I liked:

If your having a baby and are interested in a newborn shoot, make sure to get one scheduled in the first 2 weeks after birth. That is the best time to catch the sweetness of a new little one.

Taysen is such an adorable and loveable little boy! He makes the cutest expressions with his face while he is speaking in his little 11 month old language. We think that maybe he is tricking all of us and speaking Chinese like his daddy. I love to sew! One of my favorite hobbies, when I get a spare minute, is to bust out a creation on the sewing machine! The last few years that has mostly consisted of things having to do with babies or small children, and I love them! They are so fun to design and create! The diaper bag above was made a few weeks ago for my sister to gift to her sister-in-law for her new baby. I loved it and think I might make a matching one for myself :)

So, not only was I lucky enough to have my brother come visit, my Mom came for a few days and then my sister came to visit after that! My sister and I had a girls night out and had some fun taking pictures for awhile. Well...I had fun, I hope she did :) Isn't she beautiful!

I had such a great time photographing the Giles Family! Christine and Brian have 3 of the most adorable children I have ever met! I think they are sweet to the bone! The kids, Nathan, Maren and Sarah, had no problem showing their cuteness off to the camera and we got some great images! favorite things to do together

I have a very special get-to-know-you questionaire that I have my couples fill out before we do an engagement session. It helps me to find out more about them as individuals and as a couple so that we can come up with a perfect location for their portraits and I can be more connected to them for their wedding. It helps to be more like a good old friend when I come to the wedding, than just someone that has a big old camera pointed at them for the entire day :)
I thought it might be fun to let all of you blog readers get to know me and my awesome hubby, Heath, a little better and answer some of these questions about ourselves. So, here is the first question:

What are your 3 favorite things to do together as a couple?

1) We love to go out to eat.
I'm not talking Mickey D's, although that would be our kiddo's first choice, we like to go someplace nice and romantic with dim lights and a quiet atmosphere. That doesn't happen all to often, but on occasion we get out by ourselves and enjoy adult conversation :) We most recently were so lucky as to enjoy fine dining at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse here in Houston It was absolutely delicious and everyone should go there at least once!

2) We love to snuggle up after the kids go to bed and watch a movie together.
This often involves one of our guilty pleasures, Cold Stone Ice Cream. You have got to try them out and get a Mud Pie Mojo with chocolate ice cream instead of the coffee. It is our favorite!

3) We love playing games together. Some of our favorites to play with just the two of us are: Backgammon, Yahtzee and Jenga. Here is an old shot of us that my roommate took in college of Heath and I playing Jenga together when we were dating.

The Big D's

My little guy, Dallin, loves it when we call him the 'Big D'. He gets so excited that he knows his name starts with D. This last week I took him to a local pond to feed some ducks. He loved it! Some of the ducks weren't too interested in the food, I think they are fed quite a bit :) He is a tease and tried to run everytime he saw me with the camera.

The website came about because photographers wanted to give couples better information than the information that is commonly passed around by bridal magazines and websites, and tend to be incorrect. Take a look if you are a prospective bride or groom, it might anwser some of your questions. I thought it had some very good information.

Lifestyle Portraits

I've had some questions lately as to what exactly is a lifestyle portrait? I thought I would use this handy dandy web journal I have going to anwser just that question. Lifestyle portraits, by my definition, are a series of photographs taken in a relaxed and meaningful enviroment for the couple, child or family, that show their true personality and get a glimpse into their life. An example would be a family going to their favorite park or spending an afternoon playing at home. The photographer, meaning me :), would quietly observe and document the time they are spending together along with taking some relaxed portraits. Sometimes this entails going to 2 or 3 locations and spending several hours together to tell the complete story. There is nothing better than preserving these precious moments that happen in your life everyday, especially when children grow up and change so fast!

Since this sort of photography is quite new and still unfamiliar to so many, I thought I would enlighten a few of you. And what is the best way to enlighten someone? By having them experience it for themselves! The first 3 people to send me an email to amyjo@amyjophotos.com and tell me what is your favorite thing to do together as a family or couple will receive a free lifestyle photo shoot by Amy Jo. This will include free online proofing and 1 8x10 print from the day. Out of those 3, 1 will be drawn at random to receive a free custom designed album showcasing their special day.
